REVIEW:

MCK-01 by HALFBREED BLADES

10/03/2025By Hubert

With the MCK-01 (Medium Clearance Knife), HALFBREED BLADES expands its range with a new, medium-sized CQB knife. The knife is equipped with a modified spear-point blade that has a balanced mix of weight, strength, and cutting power. These characteristics make it ideal for demanding operational areas.

The MCK-01 comes with the characteristic accessories included in a presentation box provided by HALFBREED BLADES. This includes a certificate of authenticity, warranty card, specification sheet, and logo vinyl sticker.

The knife weighs only 273 grams and has an overall length of 235 millimeters.

The 11.5 cm long blade is a modified spear-point blade made of 6.5 mm thick Böhler K340 ISODUR tool steel. The blade of the MCK-01 has a slight recurve design. This makes the knife ideal for handling materials with rounded surfaces and for cutting through ropes.

The construction features a full-tang design, consisting of a single piece. This design is aimed at ensuring optimal strength and operational longevity.

The corrosion-resistant Ranger Green Teflon coating reduces reflections and friction, while the smoothly polished edge ensures razor-sharp performance and easy maintenance.

The coating withstands extreme use, including use with a fire steel, making it suitable for many different operational areas.

The 12 cm long handle is made from durable G10. The entire circumference of the handle scales is machine beveled to ensure maximum grip with bare hands. Additionally, the scales are contoured for maximum comfort and reduced wear, secured with steel Torx fasteners.

The enlarged hand guard is designed to protect the user from the razor-sharp edge.

The MCK-01 is easy to handle with or without gloves.

The hand guard and the handle provide excellent control, with or without gloves.

The integrated glass breaker pommel, designed for emergency use, features a lanyard hole for added versatility.

The precision-molded Kydex sheath is made in the USA and is standard compatible with belt carry. Eyelet holes around the perimeter allow for additional attachment or secondary mounting options (PALS/MOLLE compatible, with custom setups).

The belt clip from DOTS fits belts up to a width of 50 mm.

View from above into the sheath. With a clear click, the MCK-01 locks in place and is thus securely stored. All knife sheaths from HALFBREED BLADES are suitable for parachuting.

In developing the  MCK-01, the aim was to create an effective close-combat weapon. Nonetheless, this knife also proves useful in other areas. The spine of the blade can also be used with a fire steel. Tom Hanks is not the only one who can make fire.

The MCK-01 is robust enough for rough tasks like chopping and splitting wood. The knife was not spared. We used hardwood during batoning.

At the same time, it is precise enough for finer tasks such as carving tinder or preparing food.

CONCLUSION

The MCK-01 (Medium Clearance Knife) from HALFBREED BLADES is a medium-sized, fixed-blade knife designed for CQB use that offers an exceptional balance between weight, strength, and cutting power. This compact fixed-blade knife was developed in collaboration with active duty personnel. The  MCK-01 is high-quality, durable, and versatile. Its thoughtful design, premium materials, and robust construction make it popular among military, police, and outdoor enthusiasts. The MCK-01 is worth considering.

The MCK-01 (Medium Clearance Knife) from HALFBREED BLADES is available in Black, Dark Earth, and Ranger Green and comes with a precisely molded Kydex sheath that is ready to be belt-mounted. Here the knife can be purchased for 350 Australian dollars or from dealers that carry the high-quality products from HALFBREED BLADES.
