Combat Vehicles

Material for the armored infantry fighting vehicle Puma

01/09/2020By Redaktion

Rheinmetall has received orders for equipment for the German Bundeswehr's Puma infantry fighting vehicle. The Düsseldorf-based technology group is expected to deliver spare parts and special tools worth approximately 54 million euros gross. Rheinmetall is positioning itself as a long-term service partner of the Bundeswehr, providing support for the Puma throughout its long period of use. Of the order value, 10 million euros were booked in 2019, and 44 million euros will be booked in the business years 2020 to 2022.

The Koblenz-based Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) has now tasked the industrial side, represented by a project management company, with the delivery of a comprehensive equipment package. Within the consortium responsible for the development and production of the Puma, Rheinmetall accounts for approximately 54 million euros of the current order value.
The spare parts worth 44 million euros from this order will be delivered as call-offs from a framework agreement signed in the middle of 2020, with the delivery period expected to extend over a period of just over two years. The separately commissioned special tools, with an order value of around 10 million euros, are also expected to be delivered to the Army Maintenance and Repair Logistics Company (HIL) and the Technical Centers of the Bundeswehr during the period of 2020 to 2022. Further material needs are also expected beyond these orders.

By the end of the year 2020, all 350 ordered units of the new Puma infantry fighting vehicle will have been delivered to the troops. The current order of spare parts will ensure the best possible supply and maximum availability of the vehicles for the troops now in operation. As a core component of the "Panzergrenadier System" in the Bundeswehr, the Puma plays a crucial role in the modern equipment of the NATO Spearhead Force Very High Readiness Joint Task Force 2023 (VJTF 2023) provided by the Bundeswehr. In the summer of 2019, orders were placed with a consortium for the project "System Panzergrenadier VJTF 2023", totaling over 470 million euros gross for Rheinmetall.

The Puma infantry fighting vehicle is the most powerful and modern system of its kind worldwide. It sets new standards in terms of effectiveness in operations, mobility, leadership capabilities, and reconnaissance. In addition to its modular and highly effective protection, the Puma has a unique combat capability and the ability to operate within networked operations. All information about the Puma directly from Rheinmetall.
