Alexander Sedlak is a veteran who, starting today - Monday, April 17th -, is embarking on his 750 kilometer march against forgetting. We wanted to know what motivates him.
SPARTANAT: You're marching, we deserve to pay you. What is the goal of your march?
Alexander Sedlak: Exactly, I will march approximately 750 km. Last year I was diagnosed with PTSD. It has been a long time since I set myself a goal, which has been very difficult for me recently. The goal of the march is for me to arrive on time for the wreath-laying ceremony for the fallen soldiers in the Forest of Remembrance. Furthermore, I want to collect donations throughout the year, which I then want to hand over to the German Federal Veteran Association on site. The goal is also to encourage as many people as possible to remember our fallen comrades.
SPARTANAT: You yourself are a veteran. Where were you? What does it mean to you today?
Alexander Sedlak: That's right, I was in Kosovo in 2009 and in Afghanistan in 2011/2012. What does it mean to me?... I was/am a soldier because it was natural for me to serve my own country. I am proud of what I and all my comrades, whether abroad or at home, have achieved and continue to achieve today!
SPARTANAT: The Forest of Remembrance - HERE is the link - is the official memorial of the Bundeswehr. What connects you to it?
Alexander Sedlak: Every single soldier who has fallen or died has died for his fatherland! Because one has fallen, others live! The Forest of Remembrance is the memorial for our fallen comrades. Comradeship continues even after death. Therefore, each fallen comrade connects me to this place.
SPARTANAT: 750 kilometers on foot with equipment. Do you want to go alone or can someone accompany you?
Alexander Sedlak: I will march the 750 km alone. Accompaniment is possible in stages, of course.
SPARTANAT: How can people support you?
Alexander Sedlak: I am grateful for any kind of support. Organization, equipment, and accommodations are now secured.
SPARTANAT: We wish you success on your march!
