Marc Aurel March register from now on

03/27/2014By Redaktion

In the last week of August, the Vienna Military Sports Association invites you to participate in the Marc Aurel March Days. From August 28th to 29th, marching and hiking enthusiasts can take part in the event in several one- or two-day variations. The starting and finishing point is the Benedek Barracks in Bruckneudorf. Civilian participants are welcome as well as military personnel from Austria and abroad.

The route can be completed as a one-day march (1×40 kilometers) or as a two-day march (2×40 kilometers). Both marches can be done in uniform with or without backpack, or in civilian clothing without baggage. Alternatively, the Marc Aurel March can also be completed as a run. In the image above, a Hungarian group dressed in Roman armor has set out on their journey... For hikers who prefer a more leisurely pace, there is the option to walk a shortened route of 22 kilometers.

As one of the most traditional domestic marches, the Marc Aurel March is considered a flagship event of the Austrian Armed Forces. This year marks the 13th event since 2002, but in fact, the march days have a much longer tradition dating back to 1965. The first performance march of the Austrian Armed Forces was launched in 1965 in memory of the US President John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated on November 19, 1965.

The core participants include uniformed personnel from the Armed Forces, Police, Red Cross, Fire Brigade, and Prison Service. They ensure a diverse and colorful field of participants, of which the organizers of the Vienna Military Sports Association/Walking and Performance March Section are very proud.

Registration and Information

Accommodation and meals during and between the march days are provided. Registration is also possible via the link below. Additionally, it is also possible to register directly on the day of the march.

Detailed information (current announcement and any changes, registration forms, march routes, altitude profiles, etc.) can be found on the website of the Vienna Military Sports Association.
