LYNX KF41: The first Hungarian has arrived.

12/21/2023By Redaktion

Rheinmetall is expanding the European capacities for the production of armored vehicles. After the opening of the production, development, and testing facility for armored vehicles by Rheinmetall Hungary in Zalaegerszeg, the first Lynx infantry fighting vehicle has now been produced there. It will now be put into operation.

After extensive functional, performance, and quality tests in Zalaegerszeg, the first Lynx produced in Hungary is expected to be delivered to the Hungarian armed forces by mid-2024. "Rheinmetall is expanding its European production capacities to meet the growing customer demand and support European security," said Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger. "The plant opened in Hungary in August of this year is the most modern production and testing site for armored vehicles worldwide and will further strengthen our global production network."

"We are proud of our team in Zalaegerszeg and our colleagues in Germany who have achieved this important milestone in record time," said Paul Walf, Managing Director of Rheinmetall Hungary. The Hungarian Ministry of Defense awarded Rheinmetall a contract in September 2020 for the delivery of Lynx combat vehicles and related services worth over 2 billion euros. In the first phase of production, Hungary is to receive 46 Lynx infantry fighting vehicles produced in Germany. The first unit was already delivered in October 2022. From the end of 2023, the remaining vehicles will be produced in the customer's country by the joint venture Rheinmetall Hungary Zrt. Rheinmetall Hungary Zrt. is a joint venture between Rheinmetall (51%) and the Hungarian government (49%).

The state-of-the-art production facility for the innovative combat vehicle in Zalaegerszeg was opened in August 2023. The development and production center will focus on the development and manufacture of state-of-the-art tracked and wheeled vehicles for the Hungarian armed forces. This includes the Lynx KF41 family and the Panther KF51 battle tank in the Evo version.
The Lynx KF41 for the Hungarian armed forces was originally intended in seven variants: standard infantry fighting vehicle, command vehicle, scouting vehicle, fire control vehicle, mortar carrier, medical vehicle, and training vehicle. In addition, Rheinmetall will develop an air defense vehicle Lynx with the Skyranger-30 turret. The development contract for this was signed in December 2023.
