LYNX BRUTALITY 2023 saw 120 participants divided into teams competing in various challenging stages. From rappelling and shooting to electric shocks and running with sandbags, the event tested participants' physical and shooting skills. The day concluded with a Gun Expo featuring sponsors showcasing their products.
We were at LYNX BRUTALITY 2023. This is our report: Officially starting at 7 am with registration, the first people are already arriving. At the parking lot, there is a quick change of clothes and rearrangement, then off to the registration, as well as receiving one of the Goodie Bags.

120 participants are registered. Two squads of ten people each compete in the Pre Match, which took place on Friday. This mostly consists of Range Officers, so they know the procedure and also get a taste of the event. The rest is divided into five teams of ten people each. Five teams in the morning, the others in the afternoon. There is a switch at noon, hence a tight schedule, reflected in the fixed time limit at each stage.

The briefing starts punctually with the most important information and tips. Weapons must be transported in a case, not only from the parking lot, but also between each stage. Magazines should be loaded at every opportunity, preferably immediately after each stage, so as not to forget and perhaps run out of shots. After that, the squads spread out to the stages. For us in Squad 3, the following was the first stage.

As the name suggests, you have to rappel down from a rope here. It starts at the tower, pistol in holster and rifle on back. Swinging down, but be careful not to bump or get caught with the rifle on the platform. Then a quick sprint into the room where the barricade and target are located.

Four shooting positions, each marked with red tape, had to be taken. From each position, two shots on a paper target, regardless of hitting or not. Once all positions were completed, there was a table to the left. Here, the pistol was loaded and a steel target was shot until two hits were achieved. Then place the pistol on the table. Ammunition crates were waiting to be picked up, they had to be carried to the first floor. Rappel three times, climb the tower twice with crates, and it was over. The time limit, as is usual with LYNX BRUTALITY, was a maximum of three minutes. However, many found their legs heavy when they had to climb the tower for the second time. It was also important to avoid injury during Fast Roping.

Starting at the right front tire of the truck with only the pistol. The rifle is on the rear loading area. When the timer signal sounds - load the pistol and place four shots on a steel target 15 meters away. Once done, grab a rifle magazine, which was previously placed on the front tire, and switch positions under the truck to the tire position. Once there, take ten shots on a paper target. Beneath the actual target was also a No-Shoot Target, which should be avoided. If hit, there is a 60-second penalty. Repeat this three times, then it's done. The challenge of the stage was surely to pay attention to the offset of the No-Shoot Target and to smoothly go under the truck without getting stuck.

A Pistol-Only Stage. There are three different shooting positions, marked with an LED Beacon on the floor. Place a hit on the steel target, then move to the next position where the light is located. Be careful, it could be the same position. The beacons react to the sound of gunfire and vibration. It happened to us that after firing a shot, a casing fell on the next glowing light, activating it, so we had to search again where it was now lit.

The stage was over when the shooter placed 24 hits on the steel target. It may sound easy, but the steel target starts swinging massively and disappears behind the wall in some positions. Hitting the white zone results in a time penalty. And hitting the wall may even lead to a warning or disqualification.

This stage was shockingly brutal. A 15-kilogram sandbag must be transported under the fence to the other side. It is electrified, and it was no small amount of volts... Some received a shock, even short blackouts. Once the sandbag was on the other side, six steel targets from a predetermined position awaited the shooter. This process is repeated three times, ending the stage with the pistol and the five small steel targets shown in the image.

An old familiar, the Kasarda Drill. The fear of having to throw 36 kilograms was in the air, but in the Pre Match it was evident that this was too much for the broad field of participants. Therefore, it was reduced to "only" 24 kilograms. From the starting position, the task was to hit two steel targets at 150 meters with a single shot each. If successful, the shooter can reward themselves with kettlebell throws. The shooting position was not specified, so one could freely choose between lying down and standing. In total, one must cover 50 meters by throwing the kettlebell. Once the kettlebell is above the marking, it's time to shoot again until two hits are achieved; then, remove the magazine and use the last shot on the move to achieve a bonus hit. If successful, another minus 60 seconds is deducted from the stage time. Once the rifle is empty, the shooter must pick up the kettlebell and sprint back the entire distance. It was crucial to pay attention to the direction of the run; it must always be in a safe direction, as otherwise, disqualification could occur.
If the kettlebell was at the starting position, the stage ended by hitting two targets at 150 meters.

With that, the first day was over for us, and almost everyone then went to get their well-deserved, freshly tapped beer.

During this time, one could marvel at how the Gun Expo had been set up and was well attended.

All sponsors were present, showcasing their materials. Brownells had a wide range of high-quality weapons accessories.

MDT stocks in all possible variations, and next door, Meprolight with their optics.

There were also various weapons to admire, including Schmeisser, Bull Armory, and Polenar Tactical Armory.

Samo didn't miss the opportunity to test fire the TAGinn grenade launcher. With this, the next day he had to fire at a painted tank.

BLACK BEAR SOLUTION provides not only training and some Gucci gear, but also a lot of equipment and experience around TCCC. Throughout the day, you could follow the live stream on a big display in the area, and there were also informational events from the exhibitors. BLACK BEAR SOLUTION shared knowledge on the correct application of tourniquets.
That concludes the first day of LYNX BRUTALITY 2023 by POLENAR TACTICAL.
