This year, the exercise series Quadriga 2025 focuses on strengthening the readiness of the Bundeswehr and visible defensive capabilities. The goal is to practice the processes for the deployment of troops and materials via sea, land, and air routes to Lithuania in order to contribute to the defense of NATO's eastern flank within a multinational framework.
A key guarantee for the success of such operations is the logistics from the support area of the Bundeswehr. In the context of the two sub-exercises Brave Blue and Safety Fuel, the Bundeswehr demonstrates its ability to establish and operate a functioning logistical network in the operational area within a short time. Between August and September 2025, around 1,750 soldiers and approximately 850 military logistical vehicles will be deployed in Lithuania.
The commander of the Bundeswehr Support Command, Lieutenant General Gerald Funke, makes it clear on site in Lithuania: "The topic of national and alliance defense has arrived in the support area, and we have understood what it means. Of the 8,000 men and women who are training as part of Quadriga, every fourth one comes from the support area. This shows: It can’t work without us!"
Brave Blue focuses on the procedures and processes of follow-up supply for a simulated combat brigade in a potential operational area. The aim is to verify the readiness and capability of logistical support forces under realistic conditions. This also includes exploring alternative operational areas, for example, in neighboring Latvia, to be able to respond flexibly if necessary. Thus, Brave Blue makes a significant contribution to fulfilling NATO commitments.
Safety Fuel aims to ensure safe fuel supply. The focus here is on establishing and operating a field fuel depot in the operational area - conducted as a binational exercise of German and Hungarian soldiers. It is tested how fuel supply can be ensured even under challenging conditions.
Quadriga 2025 demonstrates that Germany and its alliance partners have the necessary determination, capability, and will to stand together for security and readiness to defend. Through close coordination within the NATO alliance and the practiced deployment via sea, land, and air routes, it is shown that troops and materials can be deployed promptly exactly where they are needed.
