RHEINMETALL has received another order for the delivery of artillery ammunition from the framework contract with the Bundeswehr.

The third call concerns the delivery of over one hundred thousand 155mm projectiles from the Spanish subsidiary Rheinmetall Expal Munitions as well as additional DM 121 high-explosive shells. Both are intended for Ukraine, with the German government being the client. The order has a value in the mid triple-digit million EUR range. Several tens of thousands of rounds are to be delivered in 2023, with the remaining in 2024.

Rheinmetall had only recently signed a new framework contract with the Bundeswehr in the field of artillery in July, expanding an existing framework contract. The contracts involve the delivery of several hundred thousand projectiles, fuzes, and propellants.

The war in Ukraine necessitates replenishing the ammunition supplies of the armed forces. Rheinmetall has recently secured several large orders in the field of artillery ammunition. The framework contract signed in July with Rheinmetall for the delivery of 155mm artillery ammunition runs until the year 2029. The potential order volume amounts to around 1.2 billion euros gross. Two major orders have already been placed as part of this contract.

The ammunition family that Rheinmetall offers in the field of artillery includes, among others, the DM121 high-explosive shell, the DM125 smoke shell, and the DM702 SMArt projectile (a joint development with Diehl Defence), as well as the training projectile RH68 and the range-optimized smoke shells RH1901 and RH1902. In addition, the portfolio includes the versatile 155mm Assegai artillery ammunition family from Rheinmetall Denel Munition: insensitive munition (IM), conventional high-explosive shells (HE), as well as smoke, illumination, infrared illumination, and other projectiles. The entire Assegai ammunition spectrum can be used to its full range of around 40 kilometers. The proven Assegai ammunition family is being introduced into the Bundeswehr with the mentioned framework contract.
