LEOPARD 2 Version A8: The new reference configuration

Always these questions: What is an A8? No, not the one from AUDI. - Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and the Norwegian procurement agency NDMA have agreed to adjust the nomenclature of the agreement signed in March 2023 for the delivery of 54 new LEOPARD 2 tanks to that of the German procurement agency for the follow-up procurement of the LEOPARD 2, as the Norwegian LEOPARD 2 has all the features of the newly defined configuration level LEOPARD 2 A8. The new Norwegian tank will therefore be called MBT LEOPARD 2 A8 NOR.

The German procurement agency has introduced the configuration LEOPARD 2 A8, as it is a new construction and the active protection system APS TROPHY from the company EuroTrophy is integrated - above in the picture of the A8 demonstrator (not AUDI) at the KMW stand at IDET 2023.

Compared to the German version, the MBT LEOPARD 2 A8 NOR has additional features, such as the integrated Norwegian ICS/CORTEX system from the company Kongsberg.
