Light combat helicopter for the German Armed Forces

The Bundeswehr will receive up to 82 new combat helicopters of the H145M type from H145M. Immediately after yesterday's approval of the procurement project by the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag, the Procurement Office of the Bundeswehr commissioned Airbus Helicopters Deutschland GmbH with the manufacture and delivery of the helicopters, which will be primarily funded from special assets.

In the procurement process, the Bundeswehr deliberately chose a commercially available helicopter type that is already used by special forces and in rescue operations. The framework contract signed today includes not only the manufacture and delivery of the helicopters, but also spare parts, eight training simulators, training for flight and technical personnel, and comprehensive service support for operating the helicopters over a period of seven years.

As an interim solution, the H145M will replace the current Tiger attack helicopter as a Light Combat Helicopter (LKH). The multi-role helicopter can be equipped with various equipment kits in addition to weapons: electronic self-protection systems, ballistic protection, or additional equipment for operations over water. The helicopter also has powerful reconnaissance sensors, allowing the crew to fly missions day and night. This makes the H145M highly versatile for use by the Army and Air Force.

Delivery of the LKH and training of personnel is scheduled to begin next year and be completed by the end of 2028. The LKH will be deployed at the International Helicopter Training Center in Bückeburg, the Army locations in Niederstetten, Fritzlar, and Faßberg, as well as the Air Force location in Laupheim.
