These Finns again: L4 PERFORMANCE have built something that is very extraordinary, the Maritime L4 PC. Well, maybe it’s not just because they are Finns, but rather a small gear company that leads products to perfection. The thought that a plate carrier is just a plate carrier sometimes overwhelms us, but here we see many exciting features. Where we say, we want to take a closer look.

Our friend longshot.cannon_ops – follow him on Insta! – suddenly appears with the thing in our Man Cave, which we call office. Such a L4 PERFORMANCE flagship, with lots of features that the Finns manufacture, and just by looking at it we are curious about how he has configured it. Others might go for a beer (we do too), but we can also tinker with gear together.

But let's start from the beginning and from the top: the Maritime L4 PC is designed as a plate carrier for amphibians. Thus, laminate that doesn’t soak up water and has holes to drain any water that comes in. This results in a very lightweight construction.

At the front, there are the usual elements: Velcro on the chest, holes and slots to attach accessories, from a cloth for sunglasses (left) to a PTT for the radio (right).

And behold: something is hidden here. A workspace for integrating a smartphone, yes, everyone has one. Of course, you can also install it with a case, but this is much more practical.

Normally, a placard is attached to the front bottom, clipped and Velcroed. You can configure the placard yourself, typically here three magazines are set.

And then there is the office at the front. Well structured, practical for writing materials or other items you want to have with you. Ideal also if the Snickers have to come along. Or several.

The bag is great. It is completely simple, made from a lightweight, flexible material. It has no weight, does not sag, but has plenty of space when you need to stuff things. Yet another small, well-thought-out piece of L4 PERFORMANCE – it comes in several variants, this is the XXS GP.

The back is laser-cut from laminate. The man of the world carries here not only his antenna but also zip-on panels. The solution here is practical because the zipper fits the back panels from CRYE PRECISION – and of course also to parts from L4 PERFORMANCE itself. We don’t see any of them in the shop right now.

At the top over the shoulder, it is well padded, always especially important when you want to wear the part with plates and gear for a long time.

The recovery handle is extendable. The man who can also pull into cover can now stand and pull, that is a significant relief.

And here at the right back, we see something that caused our amazement.

On the left back, the same thing to marvel at.

This is the cummerbund extended, which is hardly visible otherwise. Inside, you can see a padding because everyone wants to be comfortable.

We must tackle and admire this: this is a thick laminate cut with a laser.

Extended and with removed padding on the back, it looks like this. If this reminds you of something, you are right.

This is something that no longer exists from L4 PERFORMANCE: It is an inner skeleton that strikingly resembles CRYE's AVS. And it serves as the basic framework, over which the Maritime L4 PC is mounted, incredibly well. As mentioned, unfortunately, it is no longer available: one day a large American company called Finland and told them to stop doing it, or they would want to discuss it. The Finns, stubborn as they are, uttered some swear words in a language that no one understands. And they let it go. Because David against Goliath only ends well in the Bible.

Here once again the laminate back panel, missing a few Velcro pads that we removed with the padding. By the way, the Maritime L4 PC is also great without that.

There it is again, such a flexible little pouch that you can find HERE

Now, with no AVS, you can use this cummerbund with the Maritime L4 PC, which has matching soft armor inserts or plate pockets

If fully packed, you won’t see the difference.

This is a plate pocket for the Maritime L4 PC laid out, here is the inside.

The bulge is for the ballistic plate.

And as you can see, when you look closely, it is protected with Tegris. Everything is well made. No wonder, in the Finnish forests there is a lot of time to sew precisely.

You can attach this thing instead of a waist pouch onto the carrier: the Dump Lap Panel is made from the same casual material as the pouches we showed you above. It has a zipper in the front and one at the back. At the back, you should insert ballistic soft armor to protect your best pieces. In front of the divider, the other zipper opens a dump pouch. A really practical dual-use.

CONCLUSION: The Maritime L4 PC is a great piece of gear. We really looked at it for a long time and talked about it. Good material, perfectly made, and great ideas at every corner that please the user because they make it easier to use. L4 PERFORMANCE is also used by special forces in Ukraine, if we saw it right. Not cheap, but cool. And better than the Americans, who rest on their laurels. Support small finnish companies!

The L4 PERFORMANCE Maritime L4 PC is available directly from the manufacturer. The basic set costs 630 euros. Of course, you can escalate with plenty of pouches and useful accessories.

The man of the world has both: here the Maritime L4 PC meets the large Gearbitch-Bag on the CRYE AVS. And they get along …
