Steyr Arms USA hints at a big announcement with a photo of a Steyr AUG and 300 Blackout ammo. Speculation suggests a move towards a more powerful caliber, possibly akin to a Western AK round. Exciting developments ahead for Steyr Mannlicher enthusiasts. Visit Steyr Arms, Inc. website for more information.
This is how rumors are spread. Steyr Arms USA posts the image above and adds the fateful text: "Rumor has it something big is happening..." So, when we put together what we see, it is easy to recognize: a Steyr AUG is lying next to a box of ammunition labeled "300 Blackout" (ignoring Full Metal Jacket.) This clearly indicates that Steyr Mannlicher is turning to the more masculine caliber, which is somewhat equivalent to a Western AK cartridge: a short cartridge with more force, desired by many units. Certainly nicer than the AUG for AK ammunition that was seen at the IWA last year. Regardless of what may come: we are happy to be pleasantly surprised...
Just so we know what ammunition we're talking about (from left to right): 300 AAC BLACKOUT 125 grain plastic tip, 300 AAC BLACKOUT 125 grain match, 300 AAC BLACKOUT 220 grain subsonic, 5.56mm NATO, 7.62x39mm (AK).
