The Californian company AeroVironment Inc. recently introduced their new drone, the Snipe. A small Quadcopter that packs a punch. Weighing only 140 grams and equipped with an optical and an additional infrared camera, it can fly for about 15 minutes. The range is one kilometer and the device can withstand winds up to 20 km/h. Due to its compact size, Snipe can be transported in a small hard plastic box.
With all this data, you can see what the drone was developed for. It is intended to support ground units in reconnaissance. Carried on the person, it can be launched in less than a minute and provides live images. Waiting for someone in a command center to relay information is no longer necessary, decisions can be made and directed on-site. 20 units were delivered to the US government in April. Unfortunately, the drone is not intended for the civilian market. There is also no price available yet.
