KJI Mag Series

The KJI Mag Series is a versatile tripod or shooting stick mount designed for quick attachment and detachment of rifles. Featuring magnetic and pivoting capabilities, it comes with M-Lok and Sling Stud Kit options. Ideal for hunters and sport shooters, it offers stability but may not suffice for precision applications.

You want to shoot from a tripod, but also need to quickly detach your rifle and don't require a super finely adjustable mount? Then the KJI Mag Series is just right for you. This is a pivoting, magnetic ball head mount for a tripod or shooting stick. But let's take a closer look at it.

You have the choice between two mounting options. One is M-Lok and the other is a stud that screws directly into the stock, the “Sling Stud Kit”.

Here are both options unpacked. The package includes everything you need.

Mounting

Let's start with the tripod adapter, that is the part that gets screwed onto the tripod or shooting stick. This part is magnetic and comes with a standard 3/8" thread.

Simply screw it on and tighten it, that’s all there is to it. To be on the safe side, a drop of threadlocker won’t hurt. Halfway there.

With the “Sling Stud Kit”, you have the dilemma of choice since you need to decide on the right screw. One is a machine screw and the other has a coarser thread for wood.

In our case, the machine screw is the right choice. You just need to remove the front stop point from the stock. Then you should see which screw is the right one.

Simply screw the knob into the stock. It holds securely.

If you don't have a Picatinny rail on the underside and don’t want to forgo the sling attachment point, there’s an additional piece available. This extension simply gets attached and provides a loop for the sling swivel. Don’t forget the included rubber pad; it ensures optimal hold.

The M-Lok adapter is to be mounted on the weapon just like other M-Lok accessories.

This is simple and holds very securely. The small knob can also serve as an index point for the weapon grip.

Usage

Inserting the weapon with the ball adapter onto the tripod is straightforward. Just bring the ball close to the magnetic pan, and the magnetism ensures a secure connection between the two. With a little practice and your finger near the ball, you can even connect them quite quietly.

The ball cannot be fixed, so you need to actively hold the weapon at all times. The pivot range is really large. A target change is quick and easy.

The magnet holds quite a bit of weight. Our test tripod was easily lifted along with the weapon. Now, if the magnet is so strong, how do I get my weapon back down?

It’s simple. The rifle just needs to be tilted to the side. Then the ball glides out of the pan. Life can be that easy.

Conclusion

The KJI Mag Series is a well-thought-out solution for hunters and sport shooters who want a stable platform quickly, but also want to release it quickly. For long-range and precision shooters, the system is rather unsuitable as it does not provide enough stability for that application.

The KJI Mag Series is available, for example, at Quartiermeister, M-Lok from €74.90 and Sling Stud Kit from €99.90.
