Canadians are transitioning to CADPAT MT

04/03/2021By Redaktion

Canadians will be getting a new camouflage uniform. The new pattern adopted is CADPAT Multi-Terrain or MT. In September 2019, around 600 soldiers at the Canadian Forces Base Petawawa tested a similar camouflage pattern in the field. This prototype pattern, developed by Canadian defense scientists, was mainly brown, with some green and black. Based on these tests, the pattern design was further modified to what we see above.

Here is the new pattern next to the old one. Ordering the fabric for the first uniforms is the next step in the process. The new uniform in CADPAT MT will be for all Canadian Forces, except for the Special Forces, who will continue to use Multicam.

CADPAT was designed in 1995 and was one of the very first digital or pixelated camouflages created using computers. Initially seen on helmet covers around 1997/98, it took almost seven more years to be introduced into the standard uniforms of the Canadian Army (2001/02). The Air Force followed shortly after in 2004. The standard green version has the addition TW for "Temperate Woodland", there is also AR for arid areas and WA for winter.
