Safran Electronics & Defense Australasia Pty Ltd has signed a contract with NIOA for the delivery of over a hundred JIM Compacts for the LAND 159 Tranche 1 - ADF Sniper System - to equip the Australian Defense Forces.
The multispectral surveillance device JIM Compact from Safran is a crucial element for military operations and real-time tactical information, and was selected to enhance surveillance, accuracy, and performance of the sniper system in a variety of environments.
Weighing less than two kilograms including battery, the JIM Compact stands out for its compactness, robustness, autonomy, and intuitive ergonomics designed for day and night use. It features a cooled thermal detector for longer ranges, an HD day sensor, a laser rangefinder, advanced image processing, and can output data and videos to other sniper devices. With the "Long Range Sniper" function (TELD), the JIM Compact significantly increases the likelihood of success, especially against moving targets. TELD reduces the cognitive load on the user by handling parts of the calculations, allowing for quick engagement of a moving target.
With this contract, Safran expands the presence of JIM Compact in Australia with more than 250 devices. Previously, devices have already been delivered to Australian Joint Fires Observers (JFOs), Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTACs), and special forces under the LAND 17 Phase 2 contract.
