IWA 2022: Shield AMS Closer Look

03/31/2022By Redaktion

The Shield Advanced Mini Sight (AMS) is the first enclosed optic from Shield. At the IWA, we took the opportunity to take a closer look at this optic, as more and more optics are becoming available.

On the left side, the buttons are large and easy to use. Shield's typical slants with cutouts.

Opposite is the battery compartment. It is powered by a CR2050 and provides approximately 13,000 hours of runtime. (2MOA LED level 6)

The view from above shows the mounting and adjustment screw. Unlike usual, there is no clicking or "click" when adjusting the reticle.

Here is a view through the optic. In addition to the reticle of a circle with a dot, a small window located in the center bottom also stands out. Through this, iron sights can still be used.

For the reticle, you can choose between four different options. We really like that! The reticle was always clear. Also, when looking through the optic, we noticed that there is hardly any distortion from the glass.

However, we noticed a slight glare of the LED for the reticle when viewed from the front. But for us, it's more of a minor issue.

Overall, the optic made a solid and good impression. Made of aluminum, it weighs only 37 grams with the battery.

We also noticed a slight negative point, that due to the slants on the side, the rear lens is not as easy to clean. The advantage of a closed optic is that it can be easily cleaned when dirty by wiping it with a finger. Unfortunately, this is not as easy with this one as with some others.

More information about the AMS optic can be found HERE directly at Shield Sights. It is expected to be available in the third quarter of 2022.
