At the IWA, we took the opportunity to take a closer look at the Leupold DP-Micro, because it's quite extraordinary. A red dot for the pistol, but designed and constructed very differently from the others in the race.
The DP-Micro is mounted above the rear sight of the weapon. Therefore, the slide does not need to be specially modified.
It is then fixed in place from above by two screws and extends just above the slide. On the left side, there are two adjustment screws for adjusting the red dot.
On the other side, there is only the logo.
Below is the control button, which also serves as the battery cover. Therefore, battery replacement can be done without tools and without having to unscrew the optic.
The back offers two points that mimic a rear sight. Due to the tunnel design, those accustomed to using rear sight and front sight will quickly adjust and find the point.
The dot is clear and bright. We found it important to apply the same principles when aiming as with rear sight and front sight. Trying to cheat and find the red dot through the optic may be difficult due to the small viewing window. For those who have trouble with this: Holosun offers its own optic for this scenario, with a wide circle around the reticle to help you find your target faster.
Due to its size, the DP-Micro is much smaller than comparable pistol red dots, less bulky, and of course lighter. Here compared to the classic DP-Pro from Leupold.
The viewing window is naturally smaller, but the optics are closed. Possibly a good alternative for individuals who want a red dot sight for concealed carry.
More information about the Leupold DP-Micro can also be found HERE directly with Leupold.
