Rarely do you discover truly exciting things at a trade show: this is one of them. Corvus Defensio is making the Steyr AUG fit for the 21st century. At IWA 2018, the prototype for the new charging handle/cocking slider was on display, replacing the old Steyr Mannlicher part. It is more or less a hybrid of the A1 charging handle (non-folding) and the A3 charging handle (folding). The A3 does not break easily when the AUG falls from a great height onto a hard surface, but it is also difficult to fix inside the housing recess to keep the bolt open because it folds to the side beforehand. This also increases the risk of injury during the cycling process when using large optics or mounts on the Picatinny rail.
Corvus Defensio's new charging handle combines the positive characteristics. It can be folded to the side in a relaxed state, but becomes rigid with only a slight pull. This means it locks and is therefore easier to fix at the rear because the entire lever moves straight with it.
Another exciting new part is a special adapter that combines the worlds of Trijicon and Aimpoint. While it is common to mount a red dot on a magnifying sight, this combination was not available until now.
For those who want to work with Trijicon at a distance, they can now swap out a fragile RMR for a robust Aimpoint Micro. The magic of the mounting system, discovered after a brief test in the hall: when quickly aiming with the Micro at close range, one only needs to press the head with chin vertically on the rifle butt, the eye-micro height fits perfectly. HERE is the SPARTANAT article introducing CORVUS DEFENSIO.
