IWA 2018: Gore Surround with new Duty Series

03/19/2018By Redaktion

At the IWA 2018, Gore-Tex presented their Gore Surround technology for authorities' shoes. This technology allows the sole to also utilize the benefits of the Gore-Tex membrane, allowing the foot to breathe even at the bottom. To enable air to reach the foot through the sole, it must have appropriate channels. Therefore, Gore-Tex works with various shoe manufacturers to make this possible. First models were already on display. Here is an example of a shoe from Crispi in Italy. The appealing design distracts from the openings in the shoe sole, which is the main feature.

Or AKU, also from Italy. A very sporty interpretation for a surround shoe that can be worn by urban police officers. And LOWA from Germany is also in the picture. Additionally, the manufacturer FAL from Spain is a partner. With all the shoes with holes in the sole, one might wonder what happens if they get clogged with mud and dirt. Gore assured us that this has been adequately tested and they were surprised to learn that the movement of the foot and the associated breathing motion would clear these holes again.

Whether the shoes are suitable for military use remains to be seen. Further tests will be conducted under harsher conditions.
