INTERVIEW: Patch Shop Boyz is playing on

Where one sings, settle down quietly, the beasts keep singing again and again. The name is the program and it's about Patches, not music. Nevertheless, the association is unanimous. What do the Patch Shop Boyz do? And why is it more fun than others? We asked the Patch band for an interview…

SPARTANAT: Patch Shop Boyz?
Originally "Patch Shop Boyz" was just meant as an internal working title. We planned to come up with a final project name later. However, the quirky singsong that comes along with the casual pronunciation of the expression "Patch Shop Boyz" quickly made its way into our everyday language. From then on, there was no turning back! Looking back, we are all glad that the former working title was not "C.C. Patch," "Five Finger Patch Punch," or even "Village People."

SPARTANAT: Have you wandered here from music?
If you understand life as a soundtrack, then we have certainly wandered here from music. Even though we know that questions about brand background are absolutely essential, especially in the area of tactical equipment and related accessories, and unquestionably help to legitimize the respective goods sleekly, we consciously remain discreet at this point. Our dynamic Patch Shop Boyz competence team consists of a handful of tactical core aces who, with a mischievous spirit and a heart in the right place, know that CORDURA® is not a spicy noodle sauce. The rest is confidential and will remain top secret for the time being.

SPARTANAT: What do you play?

SPARTANAT: Are you sure you're all Boyz?
Perhaps we should hurry at this point! Questions like this mobilize the most delicate of all delicate snowflakes from the depths of social media. The answer, however, is strikingly simple: Even our female team members possess the typical playground attitude that significantly facilitates collaborative work and sometimes somewhat riotous communication. Meaning: In our hearts, we are all boys!

SPARTANAT: The first three patches are three patches. What's the point?
Modern pop culture has a noticeably large influence on our work! We are children of the 80s and 90s, and that is reflected in our designs. For the first wave, we were inspired by Joel Schumacher's film classic "Falling Down," the adoptive father of mutated turtles, and a pop star teetering on the brink of collapse. We are enthusiastic advocates of non-linear thinking and prefer rare design and quirky story concepts. We know that we do not cater to the masses, but we do not want to either. We produce Patches that primarily bring us personal enjoyment, and if there happens to be the occasional mischievous rascal out there who also takes devilish pleasure in them, we cordially invite them to be part of the Patch Shop Boyz Community and the associated mindset.

SPARTANAT: What is your program?
We were simply tired of abusing our favorite fuzzy velcro surfaces with the same soulless patches. With the ever-growing selection of morale patches on the market, the quality and above all creative standards were also simultaneously falling. Even the big US manufacturers, who used to impress with really great and limited patch designs for years, have adapted their production to meet demand and flood the market with thousands of editions and constantly recurring designs, which are then only distinguished by a single changing thread color from the previous production line. Our idea from the beginning was to work with truly limited small editions and when these are sold out, they are simply sold out. The early bird catches the worm! Patches should become special again, not just in terms of design, but above all in terms of edition.

SPARTANAT: Starting strong, continuing strong, what else can we expect from you and when?
For us it was clear from the start that we would only go live with Wave 1 if Wave 2 and 3 were already finished and ready to go. Accordingly, you can expect further exclusive designs in limited editions. Our releases follow no predetermined schedule and will continue to take place more or less dynamically in the future. Principally always the one that optimally supports you in your daily work and emotionally satisfies you as best as possible.
