INTERVIEW: Home visit at Camostore

We were on tour again and this time we visited our friends at CAMOSTORE. It is - geographically speaking - located halfway between Bayreuth and Regensburg or between Nuremberg and the Czech border, near Amberg. Carola and Holger have a nice store there and we wanted to know from them how they got into the gear trade and what CAMOSTORE means to them.

SPARTANAT: Holger, how long has CAMOSTORE been around and how did you come up with the idea to start it?

Holger: Since 2008. I simply had too much free time. Carola used to work in sales until late in the evening back then, and I thought, in the meantime, you can also do something meaningful.

SPARTANAT: What does CAMOSTORE stand for today?

Holger: To sell good and useful items at an affordable price. We try out a lot of our products ourselves. Because only what I am convinced of goes into the shop and I can sell it with a clear conscience and, very important, answer questions about it. At the moment, I am testing plate carriers for CrossFit, which can be offered with the plates from Pentagon. Unfortunately, two carriers have already failed.

SPARTANAT: You are located behind Nuremberg. What is more important: walk-in customers or shipping?

Holger: We definitely rely on shipping. Our store is not in a center where foot traffic gathers.

SPARTANAT: What brands do you carry and what message do you want to convey to your customers?

Holger: Helikon-Tex, Pentagon, Claw Gear, Revision Eyewear, Source Military Hydration, Krylon, Wisport, Böker to name the most important ones. What do I want to convey? That if you spend a lot of time outdoors, it can also be fun if you have the right equipment.

SPARTANAT: Personally, what are your three favorite pieces of equipment?

Holger: Currently, there are four. My Böker knife, the Operator pants from Claw Gear, the Trooper jacket from Helikon-Tex, and Achilles boots from Pentagon
