Crisis manager Wolfgang Lehner discusses the importance of personal emergency preparedness in a world where quick help may not always be available. With EMERISIS and EMERTAC, he provides expert advice and a shop stocked with high-quality equipment for disaster readiness.
Crisis times lead people to prepare for all sorts of things. Maker Prepper thinks about the end of the world or the zombie apocalypse, fueled by portrayals of over-armed post-apocalyptic survivors. Wolfgang Lehner is a professional crisis manager and advises on security issues with EMERISIS - HERE we already have an interview with him on the subject of travel safety - and on preparing for emergencies. With EMERTAC, the expert now also offers the shop that has what men and women need in case of emergency. Check it out.
SPARTANAT: Wolfgang, you specialize in crisis and security management. At the moment, it feels like many people are afraid of the end of the world. What can one realistically prepare for?
EMERISIS: *Laugh* Yes, this impression can easily arise, especially when looking towards America, where people are preparing for the "Zombie Apocalypse" or World War III. Especially in the European area, we have become a "service-demanding" society. Everyone wants to pull out their phone and get quick help - for whatever problem.
In our opinion, taking some personal responsibility cannot hurt. Especially in the case of major incidents, emergency organizations and politics can reach their limits or simply take longer to organize help, which then also arrives for each of us individually. I think that in Austria and Germany, one should also think about their personal emergency preparedness or civil protection. Especially in recent years, we have had to deal with natural disasters such as floods, storms, heavy rain, or black ice. Preparing for a prolonged power outage can't hurt in today's world and has nothing to do with conspiracy theories, etc.
SPARTANAT: Many people fantasize about weapons, others about being completely self-sufficient. What should be in the equipment if one wants to be well prepared?
EMERISIS: As with any survival training, in your personal emergency preparedness you should at least focus on basic needs. Food, light, and warmth. Some rations of food, drinking and utility water, an autonomous heat source or appropriate clothing and sleeping bags are recommended. Then you have completed 70 percent of your "homework".
SPARTANAT: In addition to the consultations offered, EMERISIS has now also opened a complementary shop where specialized equipment is available. What can one find with you that is not found elsewhere?
EMERISIS: The team behind both EMERISIS and our shop EMERTAC consists of experienced and long-serving members of the police, military, emergency services, and fire department. From everyday life to outdoor activities, safety is our top priority.
Currently, our shop includes 250 items, and new items are added almost daily. From rugged (tactical) flashlights with glass breaker function, small compact camping and emergency lights, healthy field and emergency rations, easily expandable field beds for civil protection, EDC tools, durable (weapon) cases, first aid kits for outdoor activities, and much more. It is important to us that our products are robust, durable, and above all, of high quality.
In the future, we will focus even more on the topic of "prepping" - preparing for emergencies or disasters, through blog posts, courses, and selected products. We will also include products for civil protection for municipalities and authorities. Currently, we are in talks with various partners.
SPARTANAT: What are the three things one should have at home, if nothing else?
EMERISIS: Enough drinking water (at least 3 liters per person/day), provisions for at least 14 days, light sources (flashlights/camping lights) with batteries.
SPARTANAT: What is the piece of equipment that you, as a crisis manager, like the most? Not just in terms of usefulness?
EMERISIS: I have two. My self-defense pen and the TA30, a tactical flashlight from the company Nextorch with an integrated glass breaker, my daily companion professionally and personally.
