INTERVIEW: Black Trident - fresh Kydex from Vienna

Design, material, and craftsmanship. Functionality, durability, and precision. All of this fascinates an up-and-coming holster forge in the north of Vienna. However, one thing is particularly important to the guys at Black Trident: Listening. For SPARTANAT, we wanted to learn more about their philosophy and the craftsmanship behind it. So we invited the Black Trident crew for an interview.

Templates for various BT holsters: Blue guns for measuring.

SPARTANAT: Black Trident stands for Custom Kydex. What do you do?

Black Trident: Mainly holsters, MagPouches, and knife sheaths. But above all, we are a custom forge, and the need for custom solutions should not be underestimated. We have had very exotic customer weapons, often with various attachments. The holsters we make in these cases are absolute unique pieces. It doesn't get more custom than that.

In the BT workshop: shaping everything.

SPARTANAT: Do you only do exotics and one-offs?

Black Trident: On the contrary, many customers have standard weapons and simply want a black standard holster, but in top quality.

SPARTANAT: Is it accordingly more expensive then?

Black Trident: Of course, a handmade piece from American Kydex costs more than machine-injected molding from the Far East. Ultimately, however, it is probably the most expensive when you have tried out multiple holsters because you were never quite satisfied with the function or appearance.

It gets special when weapons are accompanied by light and laser.

SPARTANAT: What is your standard holster and what can it do?

Counter question: What should it be able to do? Meaning: What weapon do you have? Does it have a red dot, laser light, or a silencer? How do you want to carry it? OWB? Appendix? Are you an IPSC shooter, undercover investigator, or maybe in the military?

Answering such questions is directly translated into fit, material thickness, draw resistance, and ultimately into YOUR standard.

And the various mounting options.

SPARTANAT: Keyword appearance: Does the look play a role for many holster customers?

Black Trident: Absolutely, the trend towards personalized holsters is increasing! It makes sense: If you are already looking for the perfect fit, why not also create a unique look at the same time. We have a large selection of high-quality Kydex with various patterns, surface textures, and of course colors in stock. Currently, laminates with Cordura or suede leather are very popular.

Customers want Kydex. There are many options.

SPARTANAT: What else do I get at Black Trident?

Black Trident: We stipple pistol, rifle, and knife grips in all imaginable patterns. And if a customer wants a Deadpool Glock or a John Wick Benelli, we will make it happen together with partners. Our network makes it possible. In the future, we will offer more related products; anyone who builds holsters should also have belts in their range. And of course, there is Black Trident coffee and T-shirts...

Nicely packaged. The box for the holster.

SPARTANAT: Your biggest strength?

Black Trident: Listening! Simply paying attention to what the customer wants. And in the background, having the necessary technology, skills, and enthusiasm to fulfill the customer's wish. Like a bespoke tailor.

In addition, there are patches, shirts, and even coffee.

SPARTANAT: What was the most special request you fulfilled?

Black Trident: Honestly, our customers constantly outdo each other with extravagant requests: a pink holster with Hello Kitty laser engraving, a Gucci holster with leather and gold, a gigantic holster for a pistol with a Fischer silencer, a quick-draw holster for Jägermeister and snuff, a micro-stippling for a Taran Tactical Glock, and much more.

There is always room for improvement, we have learned that. We love our customers for it!
