Smartshooter SMASH:

Always on target

08/18/2025

Smartshooter SMASH – The solution for dismounted soldiers in counter-drone operations. With Smartshooter’s SMASH technology, which has already been successfully implemented by the Bundeswehr, German armed forces have access to a state-of-the-art, immediately available, and combat-proven system to effectively combat the growing threat posed by enemy drones in dismounted operations. The increasing prevalence of unmanned aerial systems at the tactical level necessitates a precise, portable, and economically viable defense solution.

SMASH 2000 on the weapon

SMASH is an electro-optical targeting and firing solution that transforms conventional weapons into intelligent, computer-controlled precision systems. The core of the system is an algorithm that analyzes target movement in real time, calculates the ballistic trajectory, and takes into account distance, speed, wind, previous shots, shooter inclination, and many other parameters. An integrated camera and a laser rangefinder provide the necessary sensors, while the system automatically generates a lead mark. The key feature: the shooter may only pull the trigger once the system has confirmed a high probability of hitting the target.

Particularly in counter-drone operations, this technology is crucial: drones are often difficult to detect, can suddenly change direction or altitude, and are hard to classify both day and night when no visual background is present. Traditional aiming often fails here, as distance, speed, and trajectory cannot be adequately assessed. SMASH fills this gap exactly: the algorithm performs the complex calculations in the background, relieving the shooter in an already demanding combat situation.

The system is suitable for combating all drone systems. It is not limited to a specific UAV model but functions as a generic "Fire Control" against all moving targets in the air. The robust hardware and software architecture ensure that SMASH remains operational in its current form for the next ten to fifteen years and can be adapted to new threat situations through software updates.

SMASH 3000 ready for action

The operation is incredibly simple. SMASH is intuitive to use, can be learned quickly, and can be installed on various weapon platforms like the G27 and G95 without modifications. It is also usable on weapons like the MG4, MG5, or G36 with minor adjustments.

Moreover, drone attacks in swarm formation are becoming increasingly significant. The ability to quickly and precisely engage multiple targets is therefore not only technologically challenging but operationally essential. SMASH provides a decisive advantage here, enabling the dismounted shooter to selectively take out individual drones from a swarm, even under time pressure – without increased ammunition expenditure or endangering third parties.

Another advantage lies in the rapid availability: the systems are immediately available through an network of dealers and do not require lengthy adjustments or approvals. IEA MIL-OPTICS, as the exclusive partner of Smartshooter in Germany, has all the necessary technical resources to also carry out maintenance, spare parts supply, and repairs.
