From June 22nd to June 26th, 2022, the ILA Berlin Air Show 2022 will take place. As the largest international aerospace exhibition in Europe, Rheinmetall will once again be represented this year. Under the motto: High-tech for the protection of soldiers in action, the high-technology company will showcase a portion of its extensive systems and activities from the Vehicle Systems, Weapon and Ammunition, and Electronic Solutions divisions.
Some of the Rheinmetall highlights at this year's event include:
Unmanned Systems and Robotics: Rheinmetall presents its current product portfolio of unmanned systems, including the LUNA NG (Next Generation) aircraft as the latest development for unmanned, air-based reconnaissance, classification, and real-time object detection, as well as a platform for various payloads and missions. Rheinmetall demonstrates how various integrated unmanned air-based reconnaissance systems enhance the sensor capabilities of vehicle platforms and improve situational awareness.
Loitering Munition: Airborne precision ammunition combines the characteristics of drones and guided missiles. It enhances the reconnaissance capabilities of even smaller units over the target area and enables active and precise engagement of targets from a distance. Rheinmetall and its partner UVision have agreed to cooperate in marketing UVision's Hero Loitering Munition family in Europe. At ILA, both companies demonstrate the integration possibilities of different Hero LM systems into manned and unmanned vehicles.
Air Defense: Highly mobile, modular, and scalable ground-based air defense systems are gaining importance with NATO forces focusing on national and alliance defense. It is particularly crucial that drones (UAS) and Loitering Munition can be countered. At ILA, Rheinmetall showcases an 8x8 Boxer configured as an air defense tank with the new Skyranger 30 turret and integrated air defense missile launcher, which is well-suited for this comprehensive task.
Simulation: Train to perform – Computer-based technologies for armed forces, their equipment, and training are critical for security. With its wide range of simulation capabilities, Rheinmetall offers optimal training systems for future joint and/or multinational scenarios. Detailed training rigs and augmented reality technologies allow effective and realistic training of maintenance and repair personnel regardless of the original aircraft, developed individually for the intended use. Augmented reality applications will significantly drive innovations throughout the lifecycle of all military assets.
Ground Start Units: Rheinmetall produces Mobile Start Units (MSUs) for aircraft engines for both civilian and military needs, known for their compact design, high reliability and performance, low operating costs, making the high-tech company an established supplier of almost maintenance-free devices. The units are turbine-driven and, in addition to providing starting assistance, offer compressed air for the onboard aircraft air conditioning. At this year's ILA, the MSU-GP 200T ground start unit will be exhibited, a turbine-driven air start unit that can also supply the aircraft with 90 kVA of electrical power. Additionally, at the end of last year, Rheinmetall introduced the world's first fully electric ground start unit, eMSU, which can be used in all weather conditions and meets the strictest emission restrictions. This significantly reduces harmful emissions at airports and improves air quality.
In addition, at ILA 2022, Rheinmetall will present its extensive expertise in drone defense and protection systems, as well as simulation & training and technical documentation. Rheinmetall looks forward to your visit at ILA 2022 at booth G3 – 003.
