Hooray! The marten remains until 2030

10/12/2020By Redaktion

Model builders rejoice: the Marder 1A3 - a wonderful Revell 1:35 model, built by Karl Heinz Schlosser - is getting a new thermal imaging target device and will be kept operational until (at least) 2030. HERE you can find all the information about the Marder.

Whether the decision also pleases the troops remains to be seen: the Marder was supposed to be replaced by the current Puma. However, the Puma has so far been characterized by a lack of operational readiness. The operational readiness of the "super infantry fighting vehicle" is below average at 30 percent. The goal of reaching 50 percent is seen as a "common, partnership effort" by the Bundeswehr and the defense industry.

When the last of the 350 ordered Pumas from the first batch is finalized and delivered this year, it is necessary to place a second order of 210 vehicles so that the Marder can be completely phased out in the mechanized infantry. It seems not insignificant whether the buyer is satisfied with the ordered product - and its actual capabilities and problems. The ongoing extension of the Marder also points to structural problems in this German defense project.
