HOW TO: Fill your training SAPI

11/06/2012By Redaktion

SAPIs are expensive and easily break when mishandled, such as being dropped on the ground, etc. But for those who want to train with PC (e.g. Combat WODs) without worrying about their armor, we have something for you today:

You will need:

  • SAPI Dummy
  • Sand
  • Knife
  • Funnel
  • Tape

First, widen the small hole at the top edge of the SAPI to about 11 to 12 mm in diameter.

Then simply hold a funnel, in our case a 0.5l PET bottle, to the hole and shovel the sand in. Towards the end, the whole plate must be shaken and stirred so that it fills up well to the edge. We used quartz sand from the hardware store with a grain size of 0.3 to 1 mm, other sands should also work fine.

Once the plate is full enough, simply seal the hole with tank tape and you're done. The SAPIs now weigh about 2.5 kg with the quartz sand, very close to the original weight. Now you have a heavy, impact-resistant SAPI. Good luck with filling it up!
