After recently showing you how to modify a Blackhawk Holster platform, today we want to present you from SPARTANAT how to adjust the equivalent of Safariland or similar systems, to have a more comfortable mid-ride carrying feeling.
We start by marking how the cuts for the modification should run. Due to the belt layout below, we want to keep the full width there, while a narrow profile is advantageous at the top. We have already shortened the belt strap to mid-ride length.
First, we cut the platform with straight cuts to remove the majority of the excess material. As you have probably already noticed, we are not modifying a Safariland product here, but a China holster that is nearly identical.
Now it's easy to give the holster platform the desired roundness. Our material was quite soft, which is why we didn't use power tools to avoid overshooting. When filing afterwards, special attention should be paid to the transitions to ensure everything is smooth and no corners will chafe the pants in the long run.
After sawing and filing, we smoothed the edges with fine sandpaper, and the mid-ride mod for Safariland and similar holsters is done. The fit is very good, only the stiffness of the belt strap still bothers a little when sitting or squatting. But that's a topic for another time…
