A while ago, we showed you how to easily build a patch wall for yourself with carpet. Since we still had a lot of carpet left over, we got creative and came up with the idea of making the inside of our gun safe more practical. After some undocumented attempts, we want to show you the best way today.
Normally, (cheap) gun safes are quite bare on the inside. Bare metal walls, a few holders for rifles, and that's it. Now, you have to lock up your big bad magazines, and things can quickly get chaotic in the safe. We have already put the magazines in VIS Inserts from Helikon-Tex, but it would be great if we could also attach them inside the gun safe.
So off to the hardware store. But first measure the inside of the cabinet and consider how large the cutouts should be, which we will then cover completely with carpet. We have had the best experiences with spray adhesive and especially extra strong carpet glue. A stapler also doesn't hurt. Cut the carpet to size and then you can start sticking cheerfully.
Apply and process the adhesive according to the instructions. Put on some old clothes, because the glue really sticks well to textiles.
We also stapled the carpet in the upper area of the panel to be on the safe side. After all, a lot of weight can accumulate there. Before someone asks, "Why don't you glue the felt directly into the cabinet?" we didn't find a suitable glue and wanted to keep it easily reversible.
An initial attempt was to fix the carpet directly into the cabinet with double-sided tape. This works fine as long as you don't attach anything heavy. Now we use the tape to secure the panels.
This piece of carpeted board was also fixed with tape in the cabinet door. It holds very well and provides additional velcro surface.
The interior is felted. The back panel is also a board with carpet on it, just like the side parts. It is important to let the pieces dry well, otherwise moisture will accumulate in the safe. Now you can start organizing.
The final result, everything has its place and is quickly within reach. The VIS Inserts also do a good job here and ensure order. The gun fixation is borrowed from a Tasmanian Tiger backpack. So, we wish you happy crafting.
