Translate to English: HOW TO: Build your own filling adapter!

07/05/2011By Redaktion

Who doesn't know the annoying problem: "The hydration bladder is empty!" To refill it, the backpack or vest must be taken off, the bladder retrieved and filled. Once this is done, everything must be packed up and put back on. Quite complicated, actually, but we have picked up an innovation from Source Hydration. We call it the "Fill Adapter" and the idea behind it is as simple as it is ingenious: the bladder is simply filled through the drinking tube. Curious? Then read the construction manual here:

Materials needed:

  • Camelbak Hydrolink Kit (or similar from other manufacturers)
  • Sports bottle drinking cap
  • Hot glue

Yes, those are all the materials you need. The assembly is also very simple.

Remove the rubber from the drinking valve and hollow out the sports drinking cap, this is best done with a sharp knife. Now the hot glue gun comes into play. Simply glue the cap to the valve, making sure everything is sealed tightly. Congratulations, you've done it.

The refilling process is as follows: Screw the adapter onto the bottle.

Remove the normal drinking valve from the tube and connect the tube to the bottle.

Lift the bottle over the hydration bladder, the higher the better. Thanks to physics, the water begins to flow into the bladder, you will notice this especially when the bottle collapses. When the bottle is empty, simply switch back and hydration is no longer a problem.

The advantages of this system are immediately apparent to everyone. This is one of those things that makes you wonder, "Why didn't we think of this sooner?" We wish you success in building it - and then of course in staying hydrated.
