Lights & Lasers
REVIEW:

HOLOSUN RAID weapon light

The HOLOSUN RAID Long Gun Light offers exceptional functionality with a comprehensive set of accessories, including M-Lok and Picatinny mounts, a USB-C charging cable, and a cable switch. While the light beam's secondary focus is somewhat uneven, the RAID is praised for its solid build and versatility, delivering great performance overall.

HOLOSUN is known for top-notch red dots at a fair price, but they also offer lasers and weapon lights. We had the opportunity to extensively test the RAID Long Gun Light. By the way, RAID is an abbreviation for "Rifle Area Illumination Device".  We stick with RAID.

Contents

The HOLOSUN RAID has one of the most useful sets of contents we've seen in weapon lights so far. It truly includes everything you could wish for. Everything is hidden in this elegantly designed box.

In addition to the light itself with a battery, you also get:

  • M-Lok Mount
  • Picatinny Mount
  • USB-C Charging Cable
  • Torx Allen Wrench
  • Crane Cable Switch
  • Microfiber Cloth
  • Operating Instructions

So really everything except for a lamp cover.

Installation

How to mount the RAID on the weapon or helmet? You have full choice. The RAID relies for the first time on the SUREFIRE Scout screw pattern, and it comes with a very good M-LOK as well as Picatinny mount. The matching screws are of course included, no worries. Don't forget thread locker.

Power Supply

The RAID comes with a 3,500 mAh battery that can be charged directly via USB-C. However, you can also use two CR123A batteries. The blue one is an adapter sleeve for the 18650 battery. You don't need this for CR123A batteries.

The labeling on the 18650 battery is somewhat spartan, but has everything you need to know. We are big fans of batteries, as they can save you money in the long run.

Operation

The operation is simple. Either press the pressure switch at the end of the lamp or the cable switch. A short press puts the RAID in constant light mode with 1,000 lumens and 80,000 candela in the center. Hold it down and you're in "Momentary" mode. When you release it, the RAID goes out again. It works quite well.

The cable switch is equipped with a Crane connector, and switches from other manufacturers also fit. The switch from HOLOSUN is well made and does not necessarily need to be replaced.

Two screws hold it securely on the Picatinny rail. We had no problems with it.

The threads of the lamp head and end switch are identical. Thus, you can screw the RAID together "the wrong way round." This does not affect its function. This way, you can adapt the RAID weapon light position very well to your needs.

Light Beam

The center of the HOLOSUN RAID is super bright, compact, and also very sharp. The only criticism is the spill of the light. This appears very inhomogeneous. It looks worse in the photo than it is in application, as you automatically focus on the bright center. This is also the only real negative point we found in the RAID.

Conclusion

The HOLOSUN RAID is a solid long gun light that you can't go wrong with. The included accessories enable all mounting options, and the cable switch is very well made. The only thing we don't quite like is the spill. Overall, the RAID offers a very good price-performance ratio.

Available at HOLOSUN RAID for example at ARMAMAT for €209.90, or directly at HOLOSUN EU for 215.90€
