Hero Loitering Munition for Hungary

The Düsseldorf-based Rheinmetall Group has won a significant contract for the delivery of loitering Hero Munition in Hungary. The corresponding contracts have now been signed. The value of the ammunition order is in the low hundreds of millions of euros. Delivery will begin in 2024, with completion planned for 2025.

Hero Loitering Munition is a family of combat-proven, widely deployed effectors that are manufactured and distributed in Europe through a cooperation between the Israeli UVision Air Ltd. and Rheinmetall. In October 2021, Rheinmetall and UVision agreed on a strategic partnership to address the rapidly growing market segment of remote-controlled precision munitions.

Hero Precision Munition provides armed forces on today's battlefield with high operational flexibility. These weapon systems offer independent target engagement capabilities as well as high-quality reconnaissance, surveillance, and detection capabilities. They can independently locate, track, and engage time-critical low signature enemy targets beyond the line of sight.

The loitering Hero Munition circles above the target area, locates and tracks the enemy, analyzes potential targets, helps select high-value targets as well as appropriate timing, direction, and angle of attack, and ultimately carries out a precision strike upon the operator's command. The loitering munition systems of the Hero family offer high commonality and can therefore be operated from the same ground control and data link terminal.

All Hero systems are designed for challenging battlefield conditions, including environments without GPS reception or in disrupted radio communications. The loitering Hero munitions are already in use by modern armed forces worldwide, including leading NATO countries, and have proven their effectiveness in operations.

The Hero system has already demonstrated its effectiveness against a wide variety of targets, including infantry targets, moving light vehicles, tanks, enemy field fortifications, air defense systems, and critical infrastructure, providing significant advantages in the context of modern conflicts. Thanks to their rapid readiness, independent target acquisition, and attack capabilities, the unique loitering Hero systems can be used for strategic as well as tactical missions by all military levels, from individual soldiers to the highest command.
