As part of a technology demonstration at the Army Combat Training Center (GÜZ), sensor solutions provider HENSOLDT successfully demonstrated the operational capability of its land-based networked sensors with the Technology Demonstration Vehicle MUV. In the presence of representatives from GÜZ, the Army Development Office (AHEntwg), the Army Command (KdoH), the BAAINBw, and the Bundeswehr Universities in Hamburg and Munich, the assisted and automated reconnaissance capabilities of the MUV were compared against the real-time situation display of the duel simulator AGDUS deployed at GÜZ.
For the first time during an uncontrolled application scenario, it was possible to detect and classify objects using machine learning algorithms. With the processing unit Ceretron, the sensor network was able to detect, identify, and transmit real disguised combat vehicles under attack to a command information system connected to a headquarters system.
Through the AI-supported reconnaissance assistant and the assistant for commanding under the hatch, it was possible to transfer targets between the various workstations in the vehicle. By networking laser warning systems, reconnaissance optronics, all-round visibility, and distributing information within the network between multiple vehicles and command posts, multiple threat alarms could be automatically clarified.
"In the context of RECON (Reconnaissance-Command-Effects-Support), HENSOLDT sees its role particularly in the reconnaissance field with smooth transitions to our other competencies," says Tanya Altmann, Head of Optronics & Land Solutions and Managing Director of HENSOLDT Optronics GmbH. "The successful demonstration in Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide has shown that our concept of sensor data fusion, also with a view to the digitalization of land-based operations, is forward-looking."
