As part of the Bundeswehr exercise " Timber Express 2023," sensor solutions provider HENSOLDT has connected several flying platforms via data link and integrated them with modern information systems.
Through the Operational Support System EUA OPTARION, location information could be reliably communicated between helicopters NH90 and TIGER as well as other platforms such as the multi-role combat aircraft Tornado and the Panzerhaubitze 2000 without modifications to the aircraft. For the first time, the data was also continuously synchronized with the new command information system of the Bundeswehr.
"With the Operational Support System, we are able to integrate existing and new platforms into the digital command network of the armed forces without modifications to the aircraft," says Alex Irmscher, Program Manager Ground Stations at HENSOLDT. "To further advance the command capability in the field of flying systems and to anchor it operationally in addition to exercises, we work continuously with army pilots and the air force."
The advantages that the EUA OPTARION offers its users were successfully demonstrated for the third time within the framework of "Timber Express 2023." As a link between reconnaissance and acting elements, relevant data could be digitally communicated along the "sensor-to-effector" chain. This interaction forms the basis for efficient command and deployment of armed forces in an interoperable information and communication network.
