We exclusively presented you the plans for the GLOCK assault rifle the day before yesterday, which has been puzzling the industry for a decade - HERE is the SPARTANAT report on the GLOCK carbine. This planned weapon follows its own designs. And yet there is more: yes, you read that right, in addition to the patents for the standalone rifle, GLOCK has also filed patents that explicitly deal with AR-15 parts. Whether this means there will be a GLOCK AR-15 or whether the company just wants to enter the business with tuning parts, we do not know.
We'll just show you the parts or the content of the corresponding patents and tell you what we think about it:
Let's start with an adjustable gas intake. The gas pressure in this design can be regulated using a sliding plate. In Fig.4, various possible embodiments of this plate are shown. Looks quite useful.
There are usually several solutions to a problem, which is why a second gas intake was also patented. In this one, the gas pressure is selected via a rotating pin that can also be pulled out or pushed in. Therefore, you have more adjustment options than with the first patent. This is of course interesting if a weapon is to switch between different types of ammunition, such as regular, military ammunition and subsonic/silencer ammunition, which is weaker loaded.
Back to the barrel: at the beginning there is the loading space with its locking lugs and the "Lockingspace (11)". The special thing about this patent is the production of the lugs and the lockingspace so that you get a barrel made from a single piece. So nothing welded or screwed in. An interesting patent that will surely be applicable to other weapons as well.
A special barrel also requires a corresponding bolt. This was also patented by GLOCK. The patent explicitly states that it should fit into existing bolt carriers of AR-15 systems.
But we're not done yet. A secured retaining pin for the firing pin was also patented. It is part number 5 in the image. This locks into place when pulled out and therefore cannot be lost.
We have one more patent. An improved magazine holder for AR-15 systems. The design is similar to that of the GLOCK assault rifle, just adapted. The special thing is that nothing has to be screwed, but the button (3) is hooked into the lever (2). A smart solution.
These are all the patents we found on the AR-15 system from GLOCK. Unfortunately, this does not necessarily mean that these parts will come to market, but we naturally hope for the best. GLOCK stands for engineering - and this is proven by the world-famous company from Austria with both the GLOCK carbine, as well as with the AR15 parts that may soon be part of the program. HERE is our video in English on the topic.
