G28 in service of the German Armed Forces

09/11/2012By Redaktion

The sniper self-loading rifle G28 is being introduced as a new hand weapon in the Bundeswehr and is intended to replace the G3 rifle. The G28 sniper rifle (ZF G28) is a semi-automatic hand weapon (gas-operated) with a rotating bolt head and magazine feed, in caliber 7.62 x 51 mm. The weapon is equipped with a mounted Schmidt & Bender scope (3-20x magnification) for engaging targets up to a maximum distance of 800 meters.

The ZF G28 complements the armament of the infantry group in special command operations to increase precision against snipers and particularly dangerous individual targets at distances over 250 meters, as well as technical targets such as optics on combat vehicle armaments. Individual targets are engaged with the ZF G28 at distances up to 600 meters using single shots, and identified and suppressed up to 800 meters. The weapon housing and handguard are made of steel sheet. The grip and shoulder stock are made of durable plastic. The green-brown coloration of the weapon and scope has proven to be a universally effective camouflage color.
