THALES:
Radios prove their worth in operational testing
10/15/2024

In a 4-week intensive operational test under the leadership of the Army Command and with the participation of the Army Development Office, the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw), the "Test and Experimentation" Staff of the German Army, as well as Dutch and French forces, Thales radios for the NATO enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) were intensively tested.

eFP is a NATO solidarity initiative that was adopted on July 8 and 9, 2016 at the NATO Summit in Warsaw. It serves to secure the eastern flank of allied states and to deter Russia. NATO Battlegroups were deployed to the Baltic States of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, as well as to Poland for training and exercises.

In 2023, Thales Germany was commissioned in an immediate initiative to deliver radios for the eFP within one year. The focus of the procurement was to provide modern, encrypting, Electronic Counter-Countermeasure (ECCM)-capable command radios for the multinational deployment of the eFP, which can transmit voice parallel to data and own position. The choice fell on devices from the Thales PR4G family (TRC 9215-HD and TRC 9315-HD) and the Thales SYNAPS-H.

During the 4-week operational test, Thales Germany was able to fulfill the requirements to the extent that the system is suitable for introduction into the Bundeswehr. Although the soldiers had not received training, but only a brief briefing, operational readiness could be achieved in less than an hour. The radios also impressed with a stable radio network and in the range tests.

There is now nothing standing in the way of the operational use of the radios in Lithuania, where the deployed forces will have secure modern radios in the future. ALL INFORMATION on PR4G radios from THALES.
