Germany and Australia have signed a cooperation agreement for the procurement of over 100 heavy infantry fighting vehicles based on the BOXER vehicle family. The vehicles will replace the WIESEL 2 system in the German Army. Production is underway in Australia, with the goal of receiving the first vehicles in 2025. Financing is expected to come from the Bundeswehr's Special Fund.
The German Parliamentary State Secretary Hitschler, together with Australian Minister for Defence Pat Conroy, has signed a cooperation agreement for the intended procurement of more than 100 heavy infantry fighting vehicles called "heavy infantry fighting vehicle" - we reported. This is intended to replace the WIESEL 2 weapon system in the German Army. The "heavy infantry fighting vehicle" is based on the proven BOXER vehicle family. It will be equipped with a manned turret with a 30mm cannon.
Production of the combat vehicle, produced in Australia as the "Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle" (CRV) and introduced into the Australian Army with 211 units, is currently underway. The goal is to start receiving the first vehicles in 2025. In order to meet this tight schedule, parliamentary approval will be sought as soon as the contract is finalized. The financing of the project is expected to come from the Special Fund of the Bundeswehr.
