The Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Bundeswehr, BAAINBw for short, is looking for the best scientific papers in the fields of military history and military technology history. The promotion prize, endowed with 20,000 euros, is intended to honor outstanding scientific work and at the same time promote young scientific talents. The papers must be submitted by January 31, 2023 to participate in the competition.

The promotion prize for military history and military technology history has been announced every two years since 2017 based on the evaluation of a specialist commission by the BAAINBw. The best scientific papers (diploma, master's theses, dissertations, habilitation theses, and comparable studies) are honored with the award. The award ceremony will be conducted in autumn 2023 by the President of BAAINBw.

The selection of works suitable for an award is made by an evaluation commission; the following individuals are currently members:

  • Prof. Dr. Marian Füssel, Chair of Early Modern History with special emphasis on the History of Science at the Georg-August University of Göttingen
  • Prof. Dr. Johannes Hürter, Institute of Contemporary History, Munich
  • Ministerial Councillor Dipl.-Ing. Anke Meyer, Head of Department BMVg A IV 6,
