FN shows Minimi MK3

11/26/2013By Redaktion

At MILIPOL 2013 in Paris, FN HERSTAL introduced the MK3 modifications of the FN MINIMI. The weapon now has a retractable shoulder stock with hydraulic buffer, which has five fixed positions and an adjustable cheek rest. There is a new handguard unit up front with three MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rails. The bipod can now be folded despite the front grip (it has a wider stance that allows room for the front grip). The charging handle has been ergonomically redesigned for better form. There are also improvements to the belt feed, with two pins to prevent the belt from slipping out when inserted. The heat shield from the FN M240 can also be used on the Minimi MK3. All of these upgrades can be purchased as a retrofit kit to enhance “older” Minimis. Overall, they will be aligned with the standards of the MK46 Mod1 and MK48 Mod1, which are in use by special forces. HERE is the MK3 page on FN's website.
