FN Elite for France's snipers

The Belgian company FN Herstal is pleased to have received its first large order of FN Elity® ballistic computers manufactured in Europe (ITAR-free) and to be used by French snipers and designated marksmen.

In early 2022, the Battle-Lab Terre (BLT), a structure for promoting innovation within the French army, acquired a first batch of FN Elity and initiated a testing phase with French units, composed of snipers and designated marksmen.

During this phase, which lasted several months, the operational shooters were able to test and evaluate the ballistic computer on various weapon platforms: 12.7mm rifles and 7.62mm sniper/precision rifles (PGM and FN SCAR®-H PR). It was demonstrated how the FN Herstal ballistic computer significantly improves the shooter's performance, reducing the "detection-neutralization" time by 40 percent and increasing shot accuracy by 25 percent. Additionally, the equipment carried by the snipers is lightened by 6 kg.

"This first innovation project with FN Herstal has gone particularly well, thanks in large part to the excellent collaboration between the Battle-Lab Terre and the Belgian manufacturer. It concludes successfully by demonstrating the effectiveness of the system and leading to the acquisition of a first batch that will benefit the French Armed Forces. This paves the way for further procurement of full-service capabilities, the terms and schedule of which are yet to be determined, as well as for further collaborations with FN Herstal," explained Squadron Leader Tanguy de Brosse, responsible for the project at BLT.
