Historian Keith Allen delves into the interrogation tactics used in Gießen and Berlin-Marienfelde during the German division. Join him as he explores the purpose and interests of the allied intelligence services in this thought-provoking discussion at the German Spy Museum in Berlin. Free admission.
"Interrogation Nation" is the name of the book. Historian Keith Allen wanted to know. What happened in Gießen and Berlin-Marienfelde during the German division in the largest reception centers for DDR refugees in West Berlin and the Federal Republic? In the reception camps, the arrivals were not only socially provided for, but also immediately underwent initial intelligence screening. However, no refugee suspected this. The allied protecting powers had interrogation centers just like the BND or Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution.
But what was the purpose of these interrogations and what interests did the allied intelligence services pursue? How were they organized and where was the line between welfare and intelligence interests?
Participants: Dr. Keith R. Allen, Author/Institute for Contemporary History Munich
Moderation: Dr. Bettina Greiner, Berlin Center for Cold War Studies
Free admission. Today from 7.30pm German Spy Museum
