The first highly protected vehicles PIRANHA 5 and EAGLE 5 have officially been handed over to the Royal Danish Army by General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS).
On March 27, the Danish Army received the first highly protected wheeled vehicles of the new generation during a ceremony attended by the Danish Minister of Defense, the Chief of Defense, the Chief of the Danish Acquisition Authority (DALO), and the Chief of the Army. After the vehicles were delivered to DALO in 2018, this ceremony marked the transition of the vehicles into operational service.
PIRANHA 5 and EAGLE 5 are part of a family of wheeled vehicles that are deployed in various configurations and variants in more than 20 user states, including the USA, Canada, and Spain. The PIRANHA 5 and EAGLE 5 are part of the latest generation of highly protected wheeled vehicles from GDELS Mowag, which have been in international operation for decades.
In late 2015, GDELS signed a contract with DALO for the delivery of 309 PIRANHA 8x8 highly protected wheeled vehicles in six variants (infantry, command, ambulance, engineer, mortar, and repair). Two years later, DALO awarded GDELS a framework contract for the delivery of several variants of the new EAGLE 4x4 vehicle, with the first series of 36 vehicles in the patrol vehicle configuration.
Both contracts are complemented by a multi-year framework contract for the maintenance of the vehicles and future value preservation programs.
Denmark and GDELS have been working together for many years. In the last two decades, GDELS has delivered PIRANHA, DURO, and EAGLE vehicles to DALO.
GDELS collaborates closely with the Danish industry within the framework of a strategic partnership. In less than a decade, GDELS has generated more than 3 billion DKK (450 million USD) in additional business volume for Danish companies such as Hydrema, Tencate, Nissens, Mikkelsen, and many others.
