FIRST LOOK: STEYR STM 556

At events, you meet and sometimes you also come across something very special, a first weapon. This is the STM 556, the AR15 semi-automatic by STEYR ARMS – seen and photographed at the booth of AUSTRIA ARMS at the big BLACK TRIDENT event over the weekend:

Here are the details of the Steyr STM 556 special edition 2023:

= The better AR15 – with AUG features!

We are naturally curious about the barrel. It is essentially inserted from the front.

The gas pressure regulation is the same as that of the STM 556.

And the retractable barrel is also locked like the AUG. A very practical feature for the weapon, which was originally offered by Steyr and Rheinmetall as the RS556 for the tender of the next long gun for the German Army.

The weapon is ambidextrous.

With the plastic parts, STEYR is going its own way: The pistol grip is based on pistols from STEYR ARMS.

And the stock is also a proprietary model.

Otherwise, the elements are like an AR15: Forward Assist Button is there and the charging handle, which is pulled back over the stock.

The left side with the controls. It is also seen that the upper is a monoblock. The short magazine – required by law – is at least irritating.
