First Look: LUNOX RNVG night vision goggles

09/19/2022By Redaktion

We received something nice to test, the RNVG from LUNOX. At the IWA, we were able to admire this relatively affordable, dual-tube night vision device briefly, but now we have two of them to thoroughly test.

You will also receive your Lunox RNVG in this case.

And this is what it looks like inside the case. The "B" sticker was added by us so we can differentiate between the devices and not pack them incorrectly.

The RNVG uses a "Dovetail" helmet mounting interface, which we personally see as the best attachment option because it is simply the most stable.

The power for the RNVG comes from a CR123A cell and it should last for up to 30 operating hours. Under optimal conditions, that is. In reality, it will probably be shorter, but you will definitely get through a night of 8 hours.

This is the on/off switch. A rotary switch that you turn 90°. If you turn it further, you activate the IR LED. Very simple, but functional.

The second rotary switch on the other side controls the "Gain." In layman's terms, this allows you to adjust the brightness. If there is a lot of residual light, you can decrease the gain, making the image not so bright and more pleasant to observe. The LUNOX RNVG uses 16mm tubes that are manual gain capable. Therefore, you can adjust the brightness in six levels.

The RNVG is a "Bridged Dual Tube" or "Fixed" night vision device, meaning two tubes that cannot be rotated out of the field of view but only shifted left and right, using an adjusting screw. The opposite would be the "Articulating NVG," such as the PVS-31 or the DTNVS. Both designs have their pros and cons, and ultimately, it's a matter of preference. From a pricing perspective, a Fixed NVG is cheaper because the construction is simpler and has fewer moving parts.

The LUNOX RNVG uses PVS-14 parts for the lenses, giving you access to a wide range of lens accessories. We think this is a solid choice.

But why did we receive two LUNOX RNVGs? The image reveals the answer, one has green phosphor tubes, and the other has white phosphor tubes. Now we will spend a few nights in darkness and then provide you with a detailed review.

Price-wise, the RNVG is around €5,690 + taxes with Green Phosphor Tubes, and for White Phosphor Tubes, you can expect around €6,270 + taxes.
