The Finnish Armed Forces have awarded EuroSpike GmbH, a joint venture between Rheinmetall Electronics GmbH and partners Diehl Defence and Rafael, with the delivery of Spike anti-tank guided missiles. For Rheinmetall, the order represents a contract volume in the mid double-digit million EUR range.

The German Armed Forces were among the first users of Spike. One version of the system is used by the Bundeswehr as Multirole-capable Light Missile System (MELLS). Produced by EuroSpike – a joint venture in which Rheinmetall holds 40% – MELLS is a modern effector of the latest generation. Depending on the missile used, it can be deployed against armored ground targets at distances of up to 4,000 meters or 5,500 meters.

Rheinmetall has proven expertise with Spike. The company has already integrated the modern guided missile into various combat vehicles for the Bundeswehr and other armed forces. The Finnish contract is of great importance for Rheinmetall and also underscores the confidence in Eurospike GmbH. The German-Israeli joint venture has become one of the industrial pillars of the anti-tank capability of many EU and NATO members.
