Field camp: Always beautifully sustainable

Rheinmetall participates in the EU Green Deal's INDY project funded by the European Defence Fund. The project aims to show efficient energy system operation in military camps, reducing fossil fuel dependence. The study results will inform new energy sources and optimization by 2024. Rheinmetall collaborates with 13 European countries for this transition to renewable energy sources in field camps.

As part of the EU Green Deal, Rheinmetall is participating in the INDY project. The project is funded by the European Defence Fund.

INDY stands for Energy Independent and Efficient Deployable Military Camps. The goal is to show EU member states possibilities for efficient operation of energy systems in field camps. The value of the contract for Rheinmetall is in the low single-digit million EUR range.

Currently, field camps are almost entirely dependent on fossil fuels, so new technological approaches can help reduce fossil fuel usage. The study results for INDY are expected to provide a basis for the development and deployment of new energy sources, resource management, and optimization of the needs of military deployment camps by the end of 2024.

Rheinmetall is part of the international project team consisting of 13 European countries. The team combines expertise with the goal of independence from fossil fuels and draws on military and civilian EU projects as well as national projects of the member states.

With this, Rheinmetall aims not only to make a direct contribution to better energy supply security in operations but also to support the energy transition and the shift to renewable energy sources for field camps.

The Rheinmetall Project Solutions GmbH has been pooling resources and capabilities for mission support since 2019 and is responsible for mobile deployable mission solutions. The goal is to provide long-term support to customers in their missions through specific services. Deniz Akitürk, Managing Director of Rheinmetall Project Solutions GmbH, is proud of the company's participation in this project: "A significant improvement in energy balance is achievable even for military operations. Optimizing energy efficiency in operations requires special technological solutions. We look forward to supporting our customers' sustainability goals with our skills and experience."
