This is where they speak French. The automatic loading system of the Leclerc XLR tank allows shooting on the move at a rate of about eight shots per minute at targets 3,000 to 4,000 meters away. The French army is convinced that its operational capability is enhanced by the integration of Vetronik and secondary armament, as well as new leadership and communication systems.
Externally, innovations are easiest to see, such as the expanded armament with the installation of a remotely controlled turret with a caliber of 7.62 mm. Nexter presented the new version of the Leclerc tank for the first time at the defense fair Eurosatory 2022 in Paris. According to the company, the renewal of the Leclerc, also known as the XLR program, represents a new stage for the tank, equipped with new features and the largest modernization of the tank in over a decade.
The company confidently states that since its first commissioning, the Leclerc XLR has already reached a level of functionality and performance that other combat tanks of its generation are just beginning to achieve in the context of their respective modernization programs.
The Leclerc tank has been integrated into the SCORPION Joint Battle Group (JBG) through common Vetronik systems of various platforms (supplied by Thales). Thanks to the SCORPION Information and Communication System (SICS) and the new CONTACT radio, the Leclerc tank is fully integrated into a collaborative combat environment.
