Combat Vehicles

EUROSATORY 24: North German Specialties

06/19/2024By Redaktion

Paris is also a magical attraction for the northern German FFG, which presents the latest innovations in the field of protected combat support vehicles "live" there. Among them is the ACSV (Armoured Combat Support Vehicle) G5, which offers combat units extremely flexible support options through the use of various mission modules, allowing it to take on different roles.

During the design phase of the ACSV, it was already designed to use different armor kits on a highly protected and extremely mobile vehicle base. By applying ISO container industry standards, modules used can be swapped within hours to assign new mission spectra to the vehicle. This makes the ACSV G5 flexible for a variety of tasks.

The vehicle's electronic equipment complies with NATO Generic Vehicle Architecture (NGVA) and also meets the highest standards for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) as well as data security through consistent red-black network separation. A CAN bus system ensures fast data flow between the various vehicle components and allows for quick error analysis when needed.

Conceptually, the ACSV G5 combines exceptionally effective mine protection with a generally very robust construction, where a large proportion of MOTS and COTS products are used. This production method not only makes the vehicle a versatile and reliable solution, but also scores high marks for cost-effectiveness over the entire lifecycle thanks to a simplified maintenance and spare parts concept.

Also on display at the FFG stand is a WiSENT 2 configured as a mine clearance tank. The vehicle is equipped with a mine-clearing plow and a Mine Clearing Line Charge (MICLIC). Additional components such as a Lane Marking System (LMS) complete the system. The world's most advanced multi-function vehicle based on the Leopard 2 chassis can also be used as a recovery and engineer tank, as well as a protected bridge layer. The system has been sold in six Leopard 2 user countries, where it seamlessly integrated into existing maintenance and service structures. With numerous additional features, the WiSENT 2 can be optimally tailored to each mission, offering the crew maximum safety in all situations.

Not only at the FFG booth, but also at the booth of the Norwegian company KONGSBERG, visitors to EUROSATORY 2024 can expect a real innovation in the form of an ACSV G5 with all-in-one equipment including sensors and effectors, turning the vehicle into a complete high-protected short-range air defense system that uses Sidewinder missiles as its main armament.

In addition to the mentioned "live" impressions of the individual products, visitors to the FFG booth K 340 in hall 6 can also expect a broad overview of the portfolio of solutions and services, as well as an answer to why mid-sized companies in Germany continue to be seen as engines of innovation.
